Child Sponsors Support Teachers, Too

An Opportunity to Extend Your Impact

Saroja, a teacher in a Good Shepherd School, didn’t have the easiest start in life. After her father abandoned the family she went hungry often and was malnourished. But she persevered and graduated from a Good Shepherd School with plans to become a teacher. She couldn’t afford the tuition for higher education, but a generous donor decided to sponsor her education. She graduated with honors and today is a teacher at the very same Good Shepherd School where she was a student. She says her greatest joy is encouraging and investing in children who face similar challenging backgrounds.

Saroja’s story is not unusual in Good Shepherd Schools. Teachers are dedicated to their profession and consider it their personal calling. Their way to change the world for good. Many say that their greatest joy comes through helping a child learn.

Like good teachers everywhere, teachers in Good Shepherd Schools make many sacrifices, and one of those sacrifices has been financial. But this is changing! DFN’s partner in India has committed to increasing teacher salaries so they are comparable to other English-medium schools. This will make finding (and keeping) great teachers much, much easier.

Did you know that child sponsorship gifts support teachers as well as students? They do! Current child sponsors, you can help teachers in your child’s school by increasing your monthly sponsorship gift by just $3 per child right now ($33 monthly, $396 annually).  You have the opportunity to make a significant difference in a teacher’s family as well as a child’s.
